Northside Neighbors

The idea for this organization started with the Maynland farm issue. As neighbors of Maynland farm we found that it was almost impossible get information on what was going on thru the local newspapers and it was also impossible to get good factual information to all the neighbors to let them all know what was going on. So we all had to get together and meet and communicate. Hence the name Northside Neighbors, we are were neighbors intrested in what was and is coming on in our neighborhood. We discovered that if you we wanted to effect change in our own neighborhood then we had to get involved in our governing bodies, mainly the city council.

The neighbors met with people from Cress Creek, North to Diehl Road, East to Iroquois shopping center, South to Odgen and even across Odgen to the train station to inform each other of issues in our neighborhood, and to get the latest information about what was happening. Do in some part to this (Napervoice.com) website and the level of excitement it raised on this one issue (Mayneland Farm) we were able to have the largest crowd (up to that time) at the city council and single largest number of speakers on a subject (62) up to that date.

Neighbors and friends that were having the same types of issues in the city. The Hobson Ponds people were doing the same things as our group had just done and we offered help to them. The idea that most all groups felt powerless when first dealing with city issues made us think that...well maybe it there was a place to find out were and what to do, just maybe more people would become involved in city issues. So we formed to help others and to help Naperville and its citizens
